Dry Eyes Diagnosis & Treatment In Brampton, ON
What is Dry Eye?
Dry eye is a chronic eye disease that is caused by a deficiency in the make up of your tears. You can have tears that do not have enough water, oil or both.
Our clinic has a specialized camera called the MX2. This camera takes high- definition digital images of the upper and lower meibomian glands (Eyelid glands). The eye doctor then screens the images for any changes in the structures of these glands. The MX2 camera is used to diagnose meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD), which will reveal either a blockage or abnormality of the eye glands.
If these glands are not working properly, this results in a decreased oil secretion into the tears, which leads to dry eyes. MGD is one of the main causes of dry eyes, approximately 86% of Dry Eye patients suffer from MGD.
Diagnosing MGD with certainty allows the eye doctor to prescribe the most appropriate treatment to alleviate your symptoms.
Dry Eye Treatment
One highly successful and clinically proven treatment for dry eyes is the iLUX MGD treatment system.
The iLUX helps to open the blocked meibomian glands (MGD) by applying gentle heat and pressure on the eyelids. This then allows the oil to be more naturally released which is very important in healthy tears to help with dry eyes, as now the healthy oil present will be able to protect the tears from drying up.
In a clinical study, patients’ meibomian gland scores were three times better two weeks post-treatment and four times better at four weeks compared to baseline.
